About the Project

200 New Mexico Poems: 100 Poems Celebrating the Past, 100 More for the Future is a dynamic celebration of New Mexico’s centennial through poetry. Its mission is to promote a broader understanding of the state’s unusual beauty and delicate ecology as well as foster a greater awareness of its distinct blend of cultural influences. Above all, the project reveals that New Mexico’s enchantment is derived from its people, its stories, and the aesthetics of its environment.

200 New Mexico Poems is an Official Project of the New Mexico Centennial.

200 New Mexico Poems is modeled after 150 Kansas Poems, a project developed and facilitated by Kansas Poet Laureate, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg. Poems accepted for publication on the 150 Kansas Poems website were published as a print anthology titled “Begin Again,” now on sale through Amazon. The resounding success of the website and consequent publication of the anthology also spurred numerous successful readings all around the state of Kansas. 200 New Mexico Poems humbly hopes to achieve the same level of success as the Kansas project.

Currently, Mrs. Goldberg is facilitating a series Kansas Renga based on the state’s motto, “To the Stars Through Difficulty,” which can be viewed at  http://150kansaspoems.wordpress.com/

  1. As usual, Elizabeth Raby has collected an experience and wrapped it in meaning. This poem speaks to each of us who needs to know civilization has limits. What better than coyotes and wolves in the wild to keep us right-sized.
